In September of 2024, four American Catholic transgender women met with Pope Francis, introducing themselves as "four trans women who have always lived and worked in the Catholic Church." Pope Francis told them twice, “Pray for me.”
Here’s another photo from the greeting.
In October of 2024, Pope Francis met with transgender and intersex Catholics for an extended meeting at the Vatican.
Please feel free to contact Michael Sennett at the email address listed, for more information about opportunities for parish staffs to learn about accompanying Catholic trans people.
God of compassion and justice,
we walk with Jesus in His suffering and love.
Let us give special attention to our transgender siblings
beloved in Your eyes, often wounded by rejection,
and yet bearing witness to courage, truth, and dignity.
May our time with them be holy ground
where stories are honored,
hearts are opened,
and we are drawn closer to the inclusive love of Christ.
We commit ourselves to the Church Pope Francis calls us to be,As a field hospital, a place of mercy, a home for all.
We ask this through Christ our Savior.
Amen.Rev. C-Y Kao, SJ
